Emmerson Boyce came off the bench to power home a stoppage-time winner for Wigan against Blackburn yesterday (Sunday), just three days after leading the Latics to their first ever home win in the Europa League.
Victory over Rovers came in Wigan’s seventh game in 22 days and Coyle said: “Emmerson summed up everything that epitomises this club.
“He came on and his desire, his vigour and his quality was there for everyone to see. He pushed the lads on as he always does.
“The amount of games we’ve been asked to play has been incredible.”
Speaking after the match, FA Cup hero Boyce, a former Quarrendon School pupil born and bred in Elmhurst, said: “A much needed three points today. Great way to end the week. After the win in Europe, rugby team winning yesterday and our result today.”
