Arsenal, England and now Team GB striker Ellen White is hoping to be a super sub against New Zealand in a historic fixture on Wednesday.
The match takes place two days before the opening ceremony and effectively begins the Games for Team GB.
Hope Powell’s side then play Cameroon on Saturday at 5.15pm before taking on tournament favourites Brazil at Wembley next Tuesday at 7.45pm.
Despite being hotly tipped to start, White has had to settle for a place on the bench in the 4pm kick off.
Speaking ahead of the match, the Gunners girl said she has high hopes.
“I think we have got a great chance,” she said.
“Our group is pretty tough but we have got a good team. Our Coach keeps saying we need to get out of our group and try to finish top if we can to give us an easier quarter-final.
“To be honest, there is no point in going to the Olympics and not wanting to win it.
“I’m buzzing and so excited to be taking part. This is crazy!”
