Aylesbury FC boss Steve Bateman says he is ‘settled and relishing the challenge ahead’ as the Moles entertain AFC Hayes today (Saturday) – weather permitting.
Bateman has said he is fully settled in at Haywood Way and looking forward to 2014 after admitting he was initially ‘reluctant’ when he first took over from Craig Faulconbridge.
FC go into the new year off the back of a 1-0 win over Egham and take on AFC Hayes having, like most of the league, had an enforced festive break due to the wet weather.
FC sit 18th in the Calor Southern League Division One Central table and things are on the up after an alarming run of results.
Bateman said: “For the first couple of weeks after I was appointed, part of me was thinking ‘what am I doing here?’
“I was something of a reluctant manager at first but now that I have a challenge to really get stuck into I am feeling much more at home here.
“When I stepped down at Slough, I was planning to have a bit of a break from the game but after a few conversations with Danny Martone (FC chairman) I didn’t need too much persuading!”
The match, should it go ahead, kicks off at 3pm at Haywood Way.
