THOUSANDS of footballers across Aylesbury Vale and beyond will be required to have photo ID cards to play park football as of the 2012/13 season.
At the Aylesbury and District League’s Special General Meeting on Thursday night, the controversial plans for photo ID were given the green light ready for next season.
The cards, which will bring the league in line with several others up and down the country, will go some way to eliminating ‘ringers’ where unregistered players turn out for teams under someone else’s name.
However, plans have been criticisd in some quarters for the extra expense and complication of what is the lowest level of amateur football.
A statement on the ADL’s website on Thursday night confirmed the news: “We will draw up a summary of what the process will be once we hear more.”
