The special guest at Chiltern Forest Golf Club’s annual presentation evening proved a real knockout at the weekend.

None other than former World Light Heavyweight champion John Conteh was on hand to honour the winners of the club’s competitions.

The evening was attended by 65 members, many of whom were there to collect their trophies including player of the year John Ellerby.

Following the presentation Liverpool-born Conteh, who is one of Britain’s most successful boxing champions of all-time, spoke about his career in boxing and had the members thoroughly entertained with stories of his times in his home city and of meeting great champions including Mohammed Ali, who he was deemed good enough to fight but never realised that ambition.

A club spokesman said: “John’s stories were all delivered with the comic timing associated with the people from Liverpool, it was a great night.”
