Thame HC Men's 1st XI Milton Keynes 1.
Thame played host to a Milton Keyenes this weekend. MK proved to be well organised with lots of fire power up front when they played in their home fixture last year. With Thame pushing hard for promotion they could not afford any mistakes as they would surely be punished.
Thame began the game confidently moving the ball well but an early error at the back gifted the MK centre forward a chance from the top of the D, he duly hammered the ball home in the bottom corner leaving the stranded Gott with no chance. MK's confidence grew reaffirming Thame's need to regain composure and prevent MK for capitalising on their early lead.
Thame showed the character and composure that has kept them in the title race all season. Keeping the ball and building the play frustrating the visitors. Thame made a some good chance and there dominance paid off when Robinson found space behind the MK defence and slotted the ball into the bottom corner leaving the keeper no chance.
Thame continued to dominate possession Sawrey-Cookson found Snuggs with a pinpoint pass leaving him with only the keeper to beat. MK continued to fight hard and played some good hockey on the break but after the early mistake the Thame defence looked in control allowing the home team to end the half with a 2-1 lead.
MK started the second half strongly intent on levelling the game and regaining the lead. Thame held strong and made chances for the visitors hard to come by Schofield began putting pressure back on the midfield with excellent play exploiting the MK midfield with his pace.
With MK leaving gaps as they pushed forward Thame regained control of possession in midfield and Sawrey-Cookson saw a gap picking Brown out at the far post who finished with a trade mark deflection goal into the roof of the net.
MK new they were at a loss and with damage limitation in mind they played with men behind the ball. With a change of approach Robinson received the ball with his back to goal but made space with a neat turn and emphatic finish on his reverse.
Thame closed out the game with total control but with the visitors packing the D chances were hard to come by. Hall made space for himself on the last few minutes beating the keeper to finish the game 5-1. With the top of the table still very close Thame must continue to win every game and travel to Eastcote 6 this weekend.
