Thame set out their stall for the forthcoming winter season with a big victory over Bicester in their second game together at Ashfold School on Tuesday night.

Thame started brightly and were able to put Bicester under immediate pressure with excellent running off the ball.

Gemma Tuffield and Rose Brereton combined well down the right and this quickly led to the first goal scored by Lizzie Greenwood–Hughes within 5 minutes with a crisp finish.

After a good move involving debutant Sally Hardy and Ellie Richardson, Greenwood-Hughes netted for an easy second. The match was all over within ten minutes as Greenwood-Hughes completed her hat-trick within 15 minutes.

Captain Charlotte Lynch converted an easy fourth when Vikki Dawson found her with an accurate pass across goal.

Thame have been working on their penalty corners in training and this proved fruitful mid-way through the first half as Honour Scharm de Jong played a clever pass to Brereton in the D who deflected the ball past an on-rushing goal keeper with a fine finish.

Thame were able to convert a number of other chances before the break to make the score 8-0 at half time.

This may have seen harsh but Thame were outplaying Bicester in every department and Cate Mackensie and Honour were solid at the back and smothered every Bicester attack.

Thame continued to play a direct attacking game in the second half and when Greenwood-Hughes was forced to retire, another debutant Emma Storey came on to cause further havoc in the Bicester defence.

Lynch could barely believe her luck as she was in position twice within 5 minutes to convert passes across goal for her hat-trick.

The Thame defence was strong and could easily repel anything Bicester had to offer and were able to walk the ball into the net at the other end, Tuffield with the pick of the goals.

The club train every Wednesday night at 8 pm at Thame Leisure Centre and are looking for more players to join their new club.
