JACK EARNS ENGLAND SELECTION
(TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14) TALENTED Thame ice hockey player Jack O' Donnell is set to make his England debut in next year's World Championships in Quebec.
Jack, 12, a pupil at Buckingham School, was named in England Under 13s's 20-strong squad for the championships in February.
The youngster is now looking forward to pitting his wits against some of the best players from Canada, the USA and Europe.
"He's on top of the world," said David O'Donnell, Jack's dad. "England probably won't win it, but they are hoping to do well."
Jack, who trains three times a week, won his place in the England squad after coming through a series of trials all over the country. He started off his career playing for Oxford three years ago before joining Swindon, the Manchester United of ice hockey. Jack has done so well in his short career that he has already earned representative honours with the South-West of England.
He has a long-term goal to take part in a future Winter Olympics, but he will still be too young for the 2010 Vancouver Games.
