Century is vital to Thame Town win
WITH player-coach Manoj Parmar hitting a sublime century, Thame Town scored a morale-boosting 127-run victory over Gerrards Cross on Saturday.
Before the start of play, Gerrards Cross were a point behind Thame in the Home Counties Premier Division Two table, but this victory gave sixth-placed Town something of a cushion over their rivals at the top of the table.
The key to Thame's victory was a second-wicket stand of 151 between Parmar, who hit an unbeaten 102, and overseas player J Bhatti (65).
This impressive batting allowed Thame to make 233-6 off 60 overs.
Talented youngster Luke Merry was the star of the Thame bowling attack when he ripped out the heart of the Gerrards Cross batting with 6-58 off 17 overs and with Sammy Lachlan taking 3-29 off 12 overs, Gerrards Cross were all out for a below par 106.
Parmar said: "It was an excellent win which we needed because Gerrards Cross were only one point behind us (before the start of play). It was a very good result."
Thame travel to Kidlington in the league tomorrow (Saturday).
Thame Town 2nd XI had another good victory in Cherwell Division Six when they beat their Bledlow Ridge counterparts by four wickets.
A superb piece of bowling by veteran Gary Porter was the highlight as he claimed 5-69 off 18 overs to help skittle out Bledlow for 182. R Carter top-scored for the Bucks side with an unbeaten 62.
In reply, Steve Beard led the run chase with an accomplished 54 and with T Collis (32 not out) steadying Thame's nerves, they were able to reach the winning target with room to spare.
