(THURSDAY, DECEMBER 28) LONG Crendon Youth finished the year in emphatic style with a fantastic 8-1 victory against Wendover Under 14s.
Playing their best football of the season, this was a real team effort.
The Crendon goalscorers were man of the match Matt Smith (3), Joe Russell, Richard Horton, Ryan Scott, Alex Farley and Johnny Sherrington.
Crendon Corinthians Under 16s took on
their closest league rivals Chalfont Saints and came away with a hard-fought but deserved 1-0 win in a tense match.
In the first half, Crendon had three good chances, but all were well saved by the Chalfont keeper.
In the second half, Crendon pushed Chalfont back and although Saints looked dangerous on the break, they failed to create any clear-cut chances due to some solid defending by Crendon's back four.
Crendon's goal came late on from a move down the left wing when a Mark Buckingham cross was slotted home by Ollie Riding. Crendon's man of the match was Henri Millard.
Thame Boys Under 15s came up against champions and league leaders Milton for the third time this season and put up a battling performance in a 3-1 defeat.
The scoreline did not reflect the closeness of the match.
Thame started brightly and did not allow the visiting team to settle into their stride, dominating possession and winning the important midfield battle.
Wingers Ryan Goodchild and Shaun Honey were causing Milton a lot of problems.
It was no surprise when on one of many surges down the right wing Goodchild was brought down inside the penalty area.
Unfortunately, the penalty was saved by the Milton keeper who made another fine save minutes later from Rob Smail.
Thame continued to pile on the pressure and shortly after having a shot cleared off the line, they took the lead when striker Haitham Sherif broke clear to score with a low shot under the advancing keeper.
At half time, the score was 1-0 to Thame.
The second half was very different to the first as Milton stepped up their game, not wanting to lose their 100 per cent record.
As the pressure mounted, Thame gave away a series of unnecessary free kicks and were punished when Milton scored from two of them to turn the match on its head.
Thame were now chasing the game and leaving gaps in their defence which allowed Milton to score a third and conclusive goal. Thame rallied late on but were unable to find the net again.
