The body of a woman in her 70s was found on the Phoenix Trail in Thame on Wednesday.
The discovery near a bridge not far from the Southern Road recreation ground was made by a member of the public at around 6.45am on Wednesday.
Police say that while she has yet to be identified, it is believed the pensioner is from the area.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
Mayor of Thame, Nigel Champken-Woods, said that while it is an unpleasant turn of events, it is not being treated as suspicious, so people should not be concerned.
“It is unfortunate that it appears to have happened when she was out walking, but people do die every day.
“It’s nothing to be worried about – it’s just one of those sad things that happens in life.”
