Following the recent jailing of two Aylesbury murderers, we ask people in the town whether capital punishment should be reintroduced for killers.

Adam Orchard, Meadowcroft

“Socially it would work but politically it wouldn’t work.”

Georgina Paul, Meadowcroft

“Definitely. If people are frightened of something they are less likely to do it. Kids today are not frightened of teachers or parents! I think that is why the crime rate is going up.”

JANET STEELE, WENDOVER

“No, because I am a quaker and I don’t believe in the death penalty. But when we did have the death penalty, it did not stop people murdering people.”

Neil pickles, waterside

“I think we should but it is tough. Because until we are all agreed and are 100 per cent behind it, it’s hard to come to a decision.”

peter purvis, lavender grange

“No. By killing that person as a punishment, it’s not making everything alright. It is a question of what it says about society.”
