Police have interviewed a man with what they described as ‘serious cognitive disabilities’ following the incident on Tuesday.
Following the interview and after speaking with the girl and her family, police have decided not to press charges.
They said they will work with the man’s carers so he gets the help he needs and to ensure the same thing does not happen again.
The girl was walking along Harvey Road at around 4.25pm when she was approached by the man, who entered the road from the alleyway to Barnard Crescent.
The man grabbed her waist and shoulders and then tried to kiss her.
The youngster managed to push the man away before fleeing the scene.
