Keen racing driver Ashley Clements has bid a temporary farewell to colleagues at the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust, as he heads across Europe to raise cash for charity Wellchild this Bank Holiday weekend.

Ashley, a resource co-ordinator at the trust, drives in his spare time, so leapt at the chance to join the Scumrun 2013.

The fun motoring challenge sees 100 vehicles head off on a 3,000-mile journey in just four days – but until they are handed their checkpoint and campsite co-ordinates, none of the drivers knows where they are heading.

All the vehicles must cost less than £500 to buy but drivers can spend any amount doing the car up.

Ashley is completing the run in his Racing VW Bora, which doubles as his racing vehicle so it had to be made street legal for the event.

Ashley said : “This is a challenge of a lifetime, and raising money for such an excellent charity makes it even more worthwhile.”
