A SMASH-HIT musician has been announced as the headline act at this year’s Towersey Festival.
Alternative rock musician and left-wing activist Billy Bragg will lead the line-up at the famous August bank holiday event.
Bragg is one of the best-known and best-loved artists of his generation.
He is most famous for his political views and has been noted saying: “I don’t choose what to write about, I don’t choose my subjects, they kind of choose me.”
Bragg is well known for his collaborations with top stars.
Over his 30-year career some of the artists he has teamed up with include Natalie Merchant, Johnny Marr, Hank Wangford, Florence and the Machine, Kate Nash, members of R.E.M, Less Than Jake, Kirsty MacColl and Wilco.
Founded in 1965, Towersey Folk Festival attracts approximately 10,000 people every year, although the 2004 40th anniversary event attracted a record-breaking attendance.
This year the highly-anticipated weekend runs from Friday August 26, to Monday August 29.
Other artists in line to perform include monster folk rockers Oysterband, the newly reformed and legendary Home Service, the beautiful voice of Cara Dillon and the multi award-winning Lau.
There is also street theatre, a real ale bar, an array of festival foods, poetry readings, storytelling, workshops, craft and music fairs and visual art and sculpture.
