Around 20 boats are to be lifted out of the Aylesbury canal basin this week as part of an operation to rescue trapped boaters.

Boats wishing to travel the waterways this summer need to be craned out following the collapse of a lock at Buckland, near the Arla megadairy in Aston Clinton.

The crane will be arriving at the town centre site at 9am tomorrow (Tuesday), with the work expected to take two days.

Once removed from the water, the boats will be transported to Milton Keynes.

Investigations into last month’s collapse are continuing and repairs costing several hundred thousand pounds are expected to take until the August bank holiday to complete.

Aylesbury Canal Society’s new multi-million pound basin at Circus Fields, off Oakfield Road, is still expected to open in June.
