The landscape in Thame is set to be transformed by the long-anticipated creation of a youth memorial.
Work has finally begun on the site, for which land in Upper High Street was first allocated in 2009.
Last weekend the Mayor of Thame, Councillor Peter Lambert, joined a group of volunteers to secure the site and clear the existing paving, making way for contractors to create the garden.
Thame Youth Memorial Trust chairman Peter Butt said: “It has been a highly emotional journey to reach this milestone, we are so proud to be delivering on the hundreds of volunteer hours that have gone into getting us to this point.”
The project has been funded through donations and grants, but another £11,000 is needed for final installation and running costs. A number of events are being planned to reach this target.
The memorial is due to open on September 8 at 12pm. More details at www.thameyouthmemorial.org
