Around two in three Thame residents have completed their voter registration forms – and this year there has been an increase in the numbers replying using text message or the internet.

So far 9200 people in South Oxfordshire have replied to the form through the internet, and 2230 by text message – last year the figures were 4186 for the web and 1628 for text.

The forms were sent out in September, and currently 35 per cent of households still need to reply.

David Buckle, electoral registration officer and chief executive, said: “Registering to vote is very simple.

“All you have to do is update the annual canvass form with the details of everyone in your household who is eligible to vote and return it to us as soon as possible.

“If your details haven’t changed you can reply by text, phone or e-mail.

“It is important that you complete and return the registration form so you’re able to take part in any upcoming elections.

“If you haven’t received your form you can contact the South and Vale elections team on 01235 540310 or print one off at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.”
