THE town’s culinary festival is almost upon us and visitors are being given the chance to take part in a Thame Tart competition.

The Thame Tart is a sophisticated version of the jam tart, invented by John Fothergill, proprietor of the The Spread Eagle in the 1930s when the hotel and restaurant were popular with undergraduates from Oxford University.
