Soap star Anita Dobson will usher in the festive season in Thame after it was announced she will be switching on the town’s Christmas lights.
Best known for her role as Angie Watts in EastEnders, actress Dobson will be taking a break from pantomime rehearsals at Aylesbury Waterside Threatre to flick the switch on December 6.
Dobson, 64, who is the wife of Queen guitarist Brain May, is playing Wicked Fairy Carabosse in this year’s panto at nearby Aylesbury.
Her appearance promises to be the icing on the cake of Thame’s Dickensian Christmas celebrations in two weeks’ time.
A jam packed schedule of events gets under way from 3.30pm on the day with festive treats and lots of local talent.
Revellers can ride on the Victorian horse and carriage or miniature steam railway.
Don’t miss the junior school’s lantern parade from 5.30pm and there will be a host of stalls selling unique and original gifts perfect for Christmas as well as food stalls offering everything from fudge to hog roast baps.
Stage events start at 6pm and feature community singing accompanied by the junior school choirs and Thame Concert Band.
Thame Players, Stagecoach Thame and the Chamber Choir feature as do Ska Souls. Santa will also be taking a break from his festive duties to come and wish the town a Merry Christmas and announce the winner of the Top Hat Trail competition. For more information visit www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk
