Aylesbury’s Slug and Lettuce will close next Monday (August 19), with the company that runs it planning to invest more in The Kingsbury.

Staff only found out about the closure yesterday (August 12) and were ‘very surprised’ by the announcement.

The 12 employees have been told they should be able to transfer to another branch if they want to.

A Stonegate Pub Company spokeswoman said: “The lease on the Slug and Lettuce in Aylesbury has come to an end and the site is being returned to the landlord for redevelopment.

“As as result of the lease coming to an end, we are currently in the process of finding suitable employment opportunities for the 12-strong team at Slug and Lettuce.

“It is our intention to invest in our other Stonegate pub in the town, The Kingsbury on Kingsbury Square, in the near future.”

Japanese restaurant and noodle bar Wagamama is set to come to Aylesbury in the future and there is speculation it could fill the site off Exchange Street, but this has not been confirmed.

Flame-grilled peri-peri chicken restaurant Nando’s is due to move into the neighbouring unit, previously occupied by La Tasca.
