There was fierce competition as school children hit the target on a shooting day with the Oxford Gun Company.

The Novice Schools Challenge held its finals day with the company in Oakley and the history books were rewritten when girls made the final for the first time.

It was not just one either, as four girls progressed, with Isobelle Docherty, the overall ladies winner.

Founder of the Novice Schools Challenge, David Florent, said: “Clay shooting is the fastest growing sport in the UK at the moment. It’s very positive.”

Michael Hook proved to have the steadiest hand as he won the overall event.

Mr Florent added: “It teaches them (the youngsters) responsibility, how to use guns in a safe manner, citizenship.

“It’s a really sociable sport. You make all sorts of different friends.”
