Sainsbury’s to check out plans for expansion

SAINSBURY’S has confirmed it is in discussions to try to expand its store in Buckingham Street.

Planning permission to enlarge the store was granted in 2007 but that agreement is now due to expire, and so the supermarket is submitting a second application to Aylesbury Vale District Council.

The exact details of the upgrade are being kept under wraps while discussions continue.

A spokesman for the supermarket said: “Sainsbury’s has been keen to improve its existing offer in Aylesbury for some time as the current store no longer meets modern customer expectations.

“A new store would provide a significantly improved range of Sainsbury’s food, grocery and non-food products for the benefit of customers and the town.

“Sainsbury’s development team is actively progressing matters to deliver a new Sainsbury’s foodstore at the earliest opportunity.

“As soon as we are in a position to provide more information, we will be sure to engage with the local community.”
