A rail line between Aylesbury and Milton Keynes has reached another milestone after a consortium of councils formally committed £45.83 million towards the project.
East West Rail will reinstate passenger servivces between Bedford and Oxford, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and beyond.
The Aylesbury spur should be open by 2018.
At a presentation in London Bucks County Councillor Janet Blake, chairman of the East West Rail Joint Delivery Board, delivered the commitment to Stephen Hammond, Under Secretary of State for Transport.
The county council is putting in £10.16m of the consortium’s commitment of £45.83.
The total cost of the project is £500m, with money also coming from the Department for Transport and Network Rail.
