A huge redevelopment of an Aylesbury pub which will see its original name restored is set to take place in the coming weeks.

The Millwrights is to be re-named The Millwright Arms and refurbished to fit in with Greene King’s ‘Local Hero’ scheme.

The Walton Road pub is to be given an ‘industrial’ feel and a map of Aylesbury is to be created on the ceiling.

The pub is currently closed while the work takes place and a relaunch event is expected at the end of the month or in early June.

New landlord James Williamson, who also works at Stars in Market Square, hopes the changes can restore the pub to former glories.

He said: “It’s not had the greatest reputation going, but it’s going to be completely different from what it is now.”

As much produce as possible will be sourced from the surrounding area and goods such as local jams will be on sale at the bar.

Mr Williamson said: “It is all based around local food, local ales, local wines, that in turn should create a pub that has a real local feel to it.

“I have already got a lot of local suppliers lined up.”
