THE World’s Wife is the title of a new art exhibition inspired by the current Poet Laureate.
Last May, on World Book Night, bosses at the Stoke Mandeville-based Obsidian Gallery challenged artists to create works inspired by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy’s series of poems called The World’s Wife.
The response is mixture of paintings, textiles, sculpture and ceramic pieces which organisers hope will appeal to those interested in either poetry or art.
Gallery spokesman Trisha Woodcock said: “The World’s Wife covers history, mythology and fairy tale, retelling stories and legends from the female perspective.
“Beautiful, sometimes dark and often humorous and irreverent, the poems have inspired artists from all over the country to create work in a wide mixture of media.”
Exhibiting local artists include Laura Boswell, of Winslow, and former Amersham College pupil Di Oldfield.
