Mencap is holding two free Planning for the Future seminars in Oxfordshire next month to offer advice to parents on making financial plans for their child with a learning disability when they are no longer around.
The seminars will be held on:
Wednesday 19th September, 12.30pm – 2.30pm at Thame Town Cricket Club, Church Meadow, Church Road, Thame, Oxfordshire, OX9 3AJ
Thursday 20th September, 12.30pm – 2.30pm at St John the Evangelist Church, 25 South Bar Street, Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX16 9AF
At the Mencap seminar, an independent local legal professional specialising in wills and trusts will talk about the options for how best to leave money in a will to a loved one with a learning disability, ensuring they get the best financial support they are entitled to.
Aarti Gupta, Mencap’s in-house wills and trusts solicitor, comments: “Wills and inheritance are subjects not often talked about, but people should ensure that their affairs are in order. This is particularly important for anyone leaving money in a will to a loved one with a learning disability.
“Parents often worry about how their loved one will manage their financial affairs when they are no longer around and are concerned that a large amount of money may leave them in a vulnerable position. They may also want to ensure that their loved one is able to benefit from their full inheritance.
“When you have a loved one with a learning disability, these issues are very real and it is important to have measures in place to ensure a secure financial future for your family. This seminar is ideal for you to find valuable information and legal advice on wills and trusts, as well as offering you peace of mind.”
