More than 800 jobs axed at Aylesbury HBOS site
More than 800 jobs are to be cut at the HBOS site in Aylesbury, it has been announced this morning (Monday).
The job losses include 240 staff at Equitable Life, which was administered in Aylesbury by HBOS.
It follows the board of Equitable Life decideding to end its ten year administration contract with the HBOS group when it concludes in 2011.
They have iinstead appointed HCL Technologies (HCL) as their new third party administrator, which means that 240 Lloyds Banking Group roles, based in Aylesbury, will transfer out of the area in March 2011.
Equitable Life and HCL have announced their intention to retain about 100 roles in Aylesbury.
Following Equitable Life's decision, Lloyds Banking Group says it conducted a review of its presence in Aylesbury and decided to relocate its life, pensions and investments operations out of the area.
Their job losses will be approximately 570 by the end of 2011, taking the total number of redundancies to 810.
Lloyds says all affected staff have been briefed by their line manager today.
In a statement it says: 'Lloyds Banking Group is committed to working through these changes with colleagues carefully and sensitively.
'The unions Accord and Unite were consulted prior to this announcement and will continue to be consulted throughout the process'.
John Van Der Wielen, managing director of Halifax Life said: "We will be working through a two year programme that will see life, pensions and investments relocate from Aylesbury by the end of 2011.
"This will allow us to manage our exit in a phased fashion and work closely with the local government bodies to ensure colleagues achieve the best possible outcome based on the options available.
"We recognise that these changes are likely to cause uncertainty for colleagues. We understand this and will provide colleagues as much ongoing support as possible."
