Former Tory MP Michael Portillo rushed from Baroness Thatcher’s funeral in London yesterday to ensure he appeared at the Bucks Women’s Institutes AGM in Aylesbury just hours later.
The ex-cabinet minister grabbed a train straight after the Iron Lady’s funeral on Wednesday to make it to the Waterside Theatre for his talk.
Federation secretary Sara Galloway said: “He said Mrs Thatcher’s service was very special.
“He spoke about his political career, some of the situations he was involved in and his broadcasting career.
“The Waterside was a fantastic venue for a meeting like this.”
Almost 800 members of the WI turned up to the meeting.
