William and Kate’s moving charity visit to Bucks
Prince William and Kate - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit the offices of Child Bereavement UK at the Clare Foundation in Saunderton- Kate receives flowers from fans
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today (Tuesday) visited Child Bereavement UK in Saunderton – a charity particularly close to the future King’s heart.
William, who lost his own mother Princess Diana in 1997 when he was only a teenager, has been a patron of the charity since 2009 and told staff: “It’s fantastic what you are doing. I’m so proud to be a patron of the charity. Please keep up the good work.”
Neve Cooper, three, whose grandmother works for the charity, greeted a pregnant Kate, whose baby is due in July, with flowers and the Princess could be heard telling the little girl how pretty she looked.
Kate, dressed in a black Topshop dress, and William both took a keen interest in the work of the charity which supports families who have lost children and youngsters who have lost their parents.
Patron Flappy Lane Fox who previously met the Duke in 2011 said she was delighted to see him again.
“He’s brilliant, so genuine,” she said. “He’s just down to earth but in a good way, obviously.
“He’s genuinely attached to the charity after what he has been through.
“Some of the questions he’s asking are really personal to him.”
The couple took separate tours of parts of the building, meeting with bereavement, training and fundraising staff before uniting to meet affected families and children.
Both the Duke and Duchess met one teenager in the Young Person’s Advisory Group, Daniel Blamires, 14, of Aylesbury.
His father died three years ago.
Daniel said: “They had a chat with everyone and they seemed like very nice people. It was pretty exciting.”
Chief executive Ann Chalmers said following their departure: “It was wonderful to have both the Duke and Duchess here.
“I don’t doubt they will have been moved by what they heard here today.”
