Vandals leave taxpayers with potential bill of £960 after destroying plants
The vandalised flower troughs in Walton Street have upset the town council
‘Idiot’ vandals who destroyed plant baskets over Christmas could end up costing taxpayers more than £950.
Aylesbury Town Council communities officer Alan Norchi said he was saddened by the vandalism in Walton Street, Aylesbury.
He said: “The town has its vandals and there’s not much that we can do to stop them.
“It’s very frustrating and it’s taxpayers who pay including the families of the idiots who did this.”
Mr Norchi said six baskets were damaged and that each could end up costing £160 to replant and reinstall with the price of contractors included.
The incident, which took place between Christmas Day and December 27 follows two similar attacks which occurred earlier in 2012.
However, Mr Norchi said the council would reinstall the baskets.
“We will get them replaced. It’s a real shame because we have had lots of compliments on them.”
