Thame United’s manager is hopeful his side can rediscover some form after they twice squandered leads late on in the space of a week.
Mark West’s men drew 2-2 at home to Highworth Town on Saturday before being defeated by Wantage Town on Tuesday night.
West said: “At Highworth we never really got going. Even when we were 2-0 up we were never in control of the game and in the end we let in a couple of goals.”
An Ellis Hercules header and Niall Hodgkins strike had United dreaming of a first league win in four.
However, Highworth clawed their way back into the game with a strike in the 68th minute and with two minutes remaining Aaron Maximen leapt highest to break Thame hearts.
While the performance against Highworth left West disappointed it was the referee’s decision to award a penalty at Wantage which infuriated the boss.
“The ball has hit our lad on the chest and then the ref says it’s hit him on his arm and it’s a penalty. It was very dubious,” West said.
Despite Ben Gray’s opener, the penalty and another late strike left Thame with nothing to show for their effort.
“I was really disappointed for the lads. We had three or four reserves in the squad and they did a great job,” West added.
“Yet again the league stitched us up big time with a midweek game. We have had eight league games away on a Tuesday night.”
Despite no league wins in November, Thame still sit comfortably in 10th in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.
“It’s not been our best month but we have done well to be where we are. I said at the start of the season I would be happy to avoid relegation. We have had a great run of performances though.”
Thame now travel to Flackwell Heath on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
West added: “I would think they would be favourites. We are not going to be at full strength. But if we play like we did on Tuesday night, you never know.”
