Council chiefs have praised the quick progress of the Thame neighbourhood plan.

An independent examiner has been appointed to examine the plan and comments about it received during the consultation.

The plan, which allocates land for 775 homes, employment and shopping, is the first in the country to reach this stage.

Mayor of Thame, Councillor Nigel Champken-Woods, said: “Thame can be proud to have reached this stage.

“The plan is a robust and detailed document that maps out the development in Thame for the next 15 years.

“It is vital that we keep up the momentum and that residents show their support by voting ‘yes’ at the referendum in May.”

The examiner, Nigel McGurk, will be reviewing written representations and there will be a public hearing on February 19 where a couple of issues will be discussed in more detail with invited representatives.

Mr McGurk can only consider whether the proposed neighbourhood plan meets the basic conditions set out by law and is not permitted to explore other considerations. Following the examination, Mr McGurk will issue a report to South Oxfordshire District Council and the town council.

If the plan meets basic conditions, he will recommend the plan proceed to the referendum stage, otherwise he may suggest further changes are needed so it meets basic conditions before proceeding.
