Sewage ‘reeking’ havoc for guides for years

‘Disgusting’ sewage has forced girl guides out of their usual hut since December.

The unwanted waste has been a long-standing problem for the guides at Manor Crescent, Wendover, and Friends of Guides committee member Joy Heels says the sewer blockages occur every 18 months.

Ms Heels said: “It’s just disgusting. It’s getting worse and worse.”

Thames Water cleaned the inside of the hut, which is usually used several times a week, on January 14 but the problem persists outside and Ms Heels said it has since returned inside too. Money has been spent on using alternative venues since December 14.

Thames Water said engineers attended on Tuesday to clear a blockage of food fat and wet wipes from a sewer.

The company added it would replace the shingle outside the hut on Thursday.
