Second developer looks to sidestep district council over major Aylesbury housing plan

Developers hoping to build 1,560 homes east of Watermead have become the latest to sidestep the district council and ask the Government to approve or block a plan.

Hallam Land’s application was submitted to Aylesbury Vale District Council last month, but they have now asked the Planning Inspectorate to look at it.

The move follows in the footsteps of developers wanting to build 3,000 homes between Bedgrove and Weston Turville, who did the same so their plan could be considered alongside an appeal to build 2,750 homes in Fleet Marston.

It now appears the proposed Watermead developers have applied for non-determination for the same reason.

Hallam Land’s Andy Birch said: “Hallam has suggested that all of the major applications around the town are considered at the same time to enable a full debate on the various growth options for the town.”

Developers hope their plans can still be heard before the South East Plan is revoked. Once this is revoked, a smaller housing target for Aylesbury Vale will be brought forward, restricting the need for new major developments.

Alan Ward, district councillor for Elmhurst and Watermead, criticised the move, saying: “The tactics that have been employed by Hallam Land are as disingenuous as they are transparent and will be seen for what they are by whoever passes ultimate judgement on this flawed scheme, be it AVDC or the planning inspector.”

The Planning Inspectorate still needs to accept Hallam’s request before considering the application.
