St Josephs pupils say goodbye to their tables and chairs for a good cause

A primary school has made sure everyone is a winner by donating its old classroom equipment to less fortunate schools in Africa.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Thame, has invested in furniture for two new classrooms at the school.

But rather than just throw away their old equipment they preferred to look as far afield as Uganda to two struggling primary schools.

Parent, Kim Littlefair, was the driving force behind the idea having previously lived in Uganda and still has contacts there.

She said: “When I heard of all these tables and chairs which were about to be taken away I suddenly thought of a friend who would probably know if they were needed.

“I’m really pleased with how it’s worked out.

“Often kids out there can be sitting on the floor and just put up with it for a very long day at school.”

Headteacher Claire Kerr said: “Our pupils were so pleased that we were able to give this furniture to children who do not have the most basic items in their classrooms.

“We will soon benefit from a brand new building and it is good to be able to pass on our good fortune to others.”

The school got in touch with National Police Aid Convoys to donate the tables and a lorry will collect the furniture next week with a larger load to take out to capital city, Kampula.
