Pilot takes on Kilimanjaro for Great Ormond’s

Robbie Connolly

A PILOT will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to raise funds for a children’s hospital caring for his son.

Brian Connolly, 39, of Netherwinchendon near Cuddington, is set to tackle Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, to raise money for gastro research at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Seven-year-old Robbie was diagnosed with a rare eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorder at Great Ormond Street Hospital when he was four years old.

The condition sees a large presence of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell that tends to accumulate at the site of an allergic reaction, in his gastrointestinal tract resulting in inflammation, chronic pain, difficulties with bowel movements and a weak immune system.

British Airways pilot Brian said: “Everyone knows we don’t have the skill to make Robbie better and that his doctors need money to research this illness – it’s the only way to find a cure.

“My wife and I can’t take his pain away but we can use our energy to climb a mountain and raise as much money as possible to help his incredibly compassionate and committed doctors. We owe Great Ormond Street so much and it’s one small way of helping them and other families.”

This is wonderful My 9 year old son also has this disorder. He survives on a food pump. We advocate for APFED all the time. You should come to the conference :)
