Patadogathon - sniffing out a Red Nose plan

In the run up to Red Nose Day a young girl has come up with a unique way of raising cash.
Eight-year-old Rosalind Herbert intends to pat as many dogs as possible!
And there may well be an ulterior motive to her idea, as she doesn’t have a dog of her own and is desperate for one.
Her father Stephen Herbert said: “She’s a mad fanatic about dogs. We don’t have one at the moment but we are being lobbied hard. We have cats. Her favourite dog is a King Charles spaniel and I am sure we will get one, but we are in the process of moving and need to wait until we are in the new house.”
Following their house move the family will be staying in Quainton where Rosalind, who attends the village school, knows just about every dog.
Mr Herbert said: “We were looking around for ideas for Red Nose Day and she is always patting dogs wherever she goes and knows all the dogs in the village, so between us we decided to see how many she could pat in a week.”
Rosalind’s mission starts at the weekend when she will visit the village store before going to the RSPCA Rescue Centre at Blackberry Farm. Then it’s off to London to Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill, a favourite dog walking location which was featured in 101 Dalmatians, one of Rosalind’s favourite films.
“We think we’ll get maximum the amount of dogs there,” said Mr Herbert .
Rosalind hopes to raise money by asking dog owners to contribute to her collection bucket and also to ask anyone and everyone to sponsor her.
“We will ask the owners to sign the sponsorship form to prove how many dogs she has patted,” said Mr Herbert, who will accompany his daughter on her patting exercise. “She is hoping to pat at least 200 dogs and raise at least £500, but it could be a lot more.”
As the fundraising initiative is in a school week – from Monday through to Red Nose Day on Friday March 15 – Rosalind will have to limit her patting to after hours, but with the lighter nights Mr Herbert said to look out for her and the collection bucket anywhere there are dogs passing by.
