Objections by the truckload: Opponents against Hampden Fields development deliver their verdict on plans
Hampden Fields Action group delliver their objections to AVDC offices
Angry residents against proposals for thousands of new homes delivered almost 4,500 objections to council offices in a tipper truck.
The Hampden Fields Action Group, fighting against proposals to build 3,000 new homes between Bedgrove and Weston Turville, handed 10 bumper files to district planning officer Jim Cannell.
They were supported by Aylesbury Vale district councillor Phil Yerby who told the Herald: “The key thing for me is that the original application was for 3,000 houses, then it went to consultation and 3,000 people objected.
“The plan was reviewed but still has 3,000 houses planned, so the consultation meant nothing to the developers. Ten thousand homes have already been approved for this area, we are playing our part in fulfilling local and national housing need, but the people of Aylesbury are waking up to the fact that we can’t cope with any more.
“The roads, hospitals and schools are full. There is no proven need for this housing development, it’s driven by greed not need.”
Jeff Newton, who lives in Weston Turville, lent his tipper truck to the protest, driving it up to the front of the new council offices in Gatehouse , where protesters gathered to hand the boxes to Mr Cannell.
More than 50 residents gathered at the council offices, including Janice Ballard who said: “On a bitterly cold day it is good to see so many people here.”
A spokesman for the Hampden Fields Consortium said: “There is a need for more housing to be built in Aylesbury and we believe that Hampden Fields represents the best opportunity to provide these while also directly providing major infrastructure improvements to help meet the town’s needs.
“Our proposals will now be considered alongside other housing proposals for Aylesbury in a conjoined public inquiry, which is expected to be held in the summer.”
