A nursery is showing it’s child’s play to buck the trend during the recession and expand its services with a new building.
Child First Nurseries, which opened its first building in Aylesbury six years ago on Rickfords Hill, will now open a new building just down the road after securing a funding package from HSBC of £750,00.
Founder Tom Shea said: “It’s always absolutely full (at the current building) so it made obvious sense to expand.
“It was registered for 100 children this morning (Tuesday). It’s taken us a little longer than we hoped because it was in very bad repair.”
Mr Shea, who has more than 40 years of experience in childcare, said the new centre will include a lot of unique features including a sensory room and solely wet room.
Despite the difficult economic climate Mr Shea said good nurseries can manage to succeed because people are determined to remain in work and return to their jobs quicker after maternity leave.
He said: “Outside the recession we will start with one or two year olds but inside it will be more three or four months.”
Mr Shea paid tribute to his staff with the new building set to bring 20 more jobs to the community.
“We have a very strong team which I’m proud to be a part of. We are developing children’s brains and that’s got to be fun.”
The new centre will open in two weeks’ time.
