New Thames Valley Police boss calls on public to help fight crime

Parents, schools and the community are being called on to help the police in their fight against crime.
Thames Valley’s new £85,000 a year police and crime commissioner Anthony Stansfeld makes the plea in his recently published draft crime plan.
He says everyone has a major role to play and the public now has the chance to comment on the 37 page document before it is finalised and published at the end of March.
In the opening statement to his five year plan Mr Stansfled comments: “Parenting, schooling, councils, the Criminal Prosecution Service, voluntary and community organisations, the overall criminal justice system, all have a major role in the reduction of crime.”
He added: “The majority of crime that directly affects the public is caused by the excessive consumption of alcohol and the need of drug addicts to fund their addiction.”
Candy Stallard, communications and press officer for Mr Stansfeld, told the Bucks Herald: “His main priorities are protecting vulnerable people, helping to reduce household burglary and rural crime and looking at alcohol fuelled crime.”
Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan force in England and Wales, covering Bucks, Oxon and Berks with a population of 2.2 million across urban and countryside areas.
