Massive emergency response as woman walks on frozen reservoir

A full-scale rescue mission was mounted when a woman walked 30 metres across a frozen reservoir when her dog fell through the ice - only for emergency services to arrive after she had left.

An air ambulance, two fire crews from Aylesbury and one from Amersham, a rescue boat from Newport Pagnell, police and an ambulance rushed to the incident in Worlds End Lane, Weston Turville, at 3.15pm yesterday (Wednesday).

However, when they arrived they found the woman and dog had left the scene.

Aylesbury fire station manager Gary Taylor, who attended the incident, said: “It stands to reason that if the ice can’t support the weight of a dog, a human shouldn’t venture on to it.

“Please don’t risk your life in a situation like this. Over the years, many other people have not been so lucky.”

Mr Taylor said people should keep away from the water’s edge and under no circumstances go on to the ice. He asked people to be extra vigilant with young children close to the water’s edge, keep dogs under control and if you see an accident call 999. If you see an animal in distress on the ice report it to the RSPCA by calling 0300 1234 999.
