Man fined for illegal waste dumping in Wendover
Some of the rubbish found near Nash Lee Lane last year
An eagle-eyed motorist who spotted a van parked suspiciously in Wendover has helped bring a prosecution for illegal dumping of waste.
The motorist saw the vehicle parked off Nash Lee Lane in September 2012, an area he had previously seen dumping.
He saw two men nearby dumping rubbish and wrote down the van’s registration number. Later he found waste including household items and clothing together with unused charity collection sacks and reported it to the Waste Partnership for Bucks.
Following an investigation, an item was traced to an address in Edlesborough. The householder recognised items from the dumped waste as some she had given to a door-to-door cancer charity collection the previous day.
The van was traced to Lithuanian national Niauris Stasiunas of Milton Road, Luton. Stasiunas admitted he had been driving the van when the waste was dumped. He claimed to have been using the van to help someone move from Luton to Aylesbury. He said they had made a toilet stop as they approached Aylesbury. While the van was stopped Stasiunas said he saw some passengers throw items from the van but claimed not to know their identities or what they had thrown.
Stasiunas pleaded guilty to the dumping earlier this month. He was fined £400 and ordered to pay clean up and prosecution costs of £1,278. A victim surcharge of £15 was also levied.
