Expert support worth £5,000 is being offered to Bucks businesses which want to start exporting.

The taxpayer-funded Bucks Business First group is searching for five firms which already have an established product but have never entered into foreign markets.

Firms chosen by a panel of judges will have access to workshops and mentoring, helping them to identify target markets, develop an international marketing plan, attend trade missions, establish links with distributors and buyers – with the ultimate aim of achieving an export order.

Heather Dean, head of business support at the group, said: “All companies are looking to grow and looking for new markets to sell their products.

“We are aiming this at businesses with a track record in the UK which means they have something highly saleable but have never proactively exported before.”

Businesses looking to export for the first time can take inspiration from a number of successful Bucks firms. These include Aylesbury company Lund Halsey which makes specialist furniture for places such as air traffic control rooms and won a Queen’s Award for international trade following significant export growth.

Bucks Business First is primarily funded by Bucks County Council, also receiving money from other public bodies and private investors. Membership of the organisation is free.
