Kate and Will provide Royal comfort for bereaved mother
Prince William and Kate - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit the offices of Child Bereavement UK at the Clare Foundation in Saunderton
A Chinnor woman whose son died almost three years ago said she was comforted after meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Roz Bush (pictured below) met William and Kate, who is five-and-a-half months pregnant, when they visited Child Bereavement UK in Saunderton on Tuesday and sat in on their group counselling session.
She said: “Both of them were so charming. William said he felt such empathy for all of us. He was so lovely.
“He just said ‘I would love to give you all a hug’. When he was saying cheerio, he shook all our hands and gave us a hug and kiss.”
Prince William has been a patron of the charity for four years and it is one close to his heart after his mother Princess Diana died when he was a teenager in 1997.
Mrs Bush lost her son, Ritchie Payne, two-and-a-half years ago when he was 28 and said she was delighted to have the support of the charity available to her.
She added: “It’s sad that we are meeting the Royals under circumstances which are as tragic as ours.
“But it just gives you such a boost. Obviously he’s involved because he lost his own mum.
“And under the circumstances for Kate that she’s pregnant you have to think good for her that she can come and be in that environment when carrying a child.”
The Royal couple were met by hundreds of well-wishers on their arrival.
Neve Cooper, three, whose grandmother works for the charity, greeted a pregnant Kate, whose baby is due in July, with flowers and the Princess could be heard telling the little girl how pretty she looked. Kate, dressed in a black Topshop dress, and William took a keen interest in the charity which supports families who have lost children and youngsters who have lost their parents.
Patron Flappy Lane Fox who met the Duke in 2011 said: “He’s just down to earth.
“Some of the questions he’s asking are really personal to him.”
The couple took separate tours of parts of the building, meeting with bereavement, training and fundraising staff before uniting to meet affected families and children.
Mrs Bush, who has two other children Elliot and Chloe, has helped the charity by fundraising and donated more than £5,000 from a summer ball event.
She added: “The charity, friends and family have supported me so much to bring my life forward. I wanted to repay them.”
Chief executive Ann Chalmers said: “I don’t doubt they will have been moved by what they heard here today.”
