It will be ‘just like being in a video game’: Big investment and new technology promised for Aqua Vale leisure centre

A £500,000 investment in equipment at Aylesbury’s Aqua Vale leisure centre has been promised by the new management.

From April 1 Everyone Active, a brand of Sports and Leisure Management, will take over the running of Aqua Vale and Buckingham’s Swan Centre.

Among the new equipment will be Trixter exercise bikes, which the company says are ‘just like being in a video game’. Bikes will turn on corners and riders will be able to feel bumps in the road, as well as being able to race against each other and a computer.

There will also be new swimming, gymnastics and dance classes for all ages.

It comes after a multi-million pound redevelopment of Aqua Vale finished last year.

Current staff are expected to be retained and the company says it will generate five to 10 new jobs across both centres. Each year there will also be 10 apprenticeships.

It is not yet known if there will be any changes to pricing under the new management.

The centres are currently run by the Aylesbury Vale Community Trust, set up specifically to operate them. Sports and Leisure Management manages more than 80 facilities around the country and there are fears quality of service could suffer as a result.

But a spokeswoman for the new management said: “Customers should see improvements rather than sweeping away what they hold dear. We want to get local people involved with the centre.”
