A leading international fashion brand is coming to Friars Square in the autumn as part of a major redevelopment.

The chain, which sells men and women’s clothing, will occupy one of the brand new pavilion units in the Aylesbury shopping centre’s central square, on which work is due to begin.

The shop’s identity cannot be revealed for confidentiality reasons, but it will occupy the main 5,000sq ft store in the £2 million redevelopment.

Andy Margieson, the centre’s manager, said: “This is a real vote of confidence in Aylesbury town centre in the current difficult retail environment.

“It makes a really strong fashion statement for Friars Square coming on top of the opening next week of H&M’s fantastic new store and following on from Blue Inc’s arrival last year.”

The construction of the new glass and timber pavilion, which will house six units alongside the main store, is due to start soon and take around six months. All the new stores are expected to be open by the autumn.

The current units in the central space will be vacated by Monday and a hoarding will be put up for the construction phase to reduce the impact of the work and protect the public.

A number of the existing retailers, including Network News, the Fragrance Shop, New York Deli, Adorn, Leigh Jewellery and Solitaire will continue trading in Friars Square during the development and will open brand new stores in the pavilion. BB’s Coffee & Muffins will continue to trade when the redevelopment opens.

Work on the pavilion and fascias will be largely done outside business hours to minimise disruption to shoppers.

H&M is set to open its doors to shoppers at 11am on January 31. To mark the event, customers in the queue before 11am on opening day will receive a wristband entitling them to 25% off in store.
