“In those days I used about a gallon of Snopake!”: Council honours long serving staff with 500 years experience between them
Staff at Bucks County Council receive long service certificates
A combined total of nearly 500 years service to Buckinghamshire has been celebrated by long-serving county council staff.
Bucks County Council’s vice chairman Carl Etholen presented certificates to 18 staff who had completed 25 years with the authority and one – management accountant Keith Stokes – who had served 40 years.
Keith joined the council in October 1972 in the county treasurer’s department as an audit assistant in the internal audit team, became a qualified accountant in 1981 and prepared the council’s statutory accounts.
He said: “In those days we didn’t have PCs and I’d prepare the statutory accounts using analysis paper and about a gallon of Snopake (correction fluid)!”
Latterly, Keith has been significantly involved in the funding the council receives for schools and how it is delegated to head teachers and governors.
The 18 staff celebrating 25 years of service come from a wide variety of council service areas, including seven from schools.
Mr Etholen said: “We value very highly the commitment and expertise of our staff and Buckinghamshire is very fortunate to benefit from the dedication of these long-serving colleagues. I congratulate them on such a fantastic achievement.”
