A pub is celebrating after appearing in the Good Beer Guide for the 12th year running.

The Rising Sun on Worminghall Road in Ickford has been run by Paul Honour since April 1999, since when he has simply learned the trade as he has gone along.

Mr Honour, 52, who runs the pub with his partner Jan Thomas, said: “It just comes down to looking after beer and being on top of the job.

“I clean the pipes after every barrel blows, so the beer is always fresh.

“I drink real ale and cask ale myself, so I know what it should taste like. I’d never want to give anyone an inferior product.

“Real ale is a vital part of the British pub and we are delighted to be celebrated in the guide.”

In celebration of their inclusion in the guide, the licensees will now be holding a mini beer festival together with a live band on Saturday night (November 10).

Andy Slee, Punch Taverns’ Buying Club director, said “Like CAMRA, Punch Taverns is committed to serving good quality Cask Ale in pubs which are at the heart of their community.

“At Punch, we put a lot of time and effort into stressing the importance of good quality cask ale and offer support to our licensees so they can ensure that their beer is at its finest.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate The Rising Sun Ickford for being one of the best.”
