Duo’s marathon squash challenge
TWO squash players are taking on the ultimate challenge in their sport by aiming to play for 30 straight hours.
Guy Fotherby and Nick Wynd will aim to complete upwards of 250 matches against each other in that time as they try to break a Guinness World Record – currently standing at 26 hours 30 minutes.
The pair will only be allowed a five minute break every hour and need to be in constant competition to break the record.
If successful, Guy and Nick will raise more than £10,000 for Cancer Research UK and Chiltern Centre for Disabled Children which are charities close to their heart.
Guy said: “Both of us have known people who have cancer so it is very close to our hearts and my niece is autistic and benefits from the charity.”
Despite the mammoth physical challenge ahead of them, both Guy and Nick are desperate to come out as overall winner from the 250 or so matches.
Nick said: “I am really competitive so will be trying to win every point, I am one of those people who has to be keeping the score.”
The pair, along with Ed Cross, came close to breaking the record last year as they raised £4,500 during a 24-hour marathon match at Racquets Fitness Centre.
But it was only as they walked off of the court that they realised how close they came to the record.
Guy said: “When we came off the court we were told we were only a couple of hours off the world record – we thought ‘why didn’t you tell us this before’.
“But we looked into it and there is so many things you have to do like film with two separate cameras and have people keep count.”
